Atlantic City NJ is somewhere I hear about in relation to two things – gambling and the boardwalk. On a trip to NJ I decided to go check it out. My trip was during the off season so there were no huge crowds to deal with. Parking also was easy to find since most parking lots close to the Boardwalk were either closed or empty.
The beach was what I would call interesting as someone form the islands. The water was not blue and clear as I am used to but a rather mud brown. The day was also windy and in no way warm enough to be in the water.
Atlantic City is known for its casinos so I could not be visiting without checking out the local entertainment. 🙂
The Tropicana was huge. It reminds me a bit of of Las Vegas, NV. I even tried the slots here for good measure. I had US$10 to play. I did not win anything and took a picture of my voucher for my scrap book before cashing out. I still do not get the allure of sitting at a machine all day pressing a button.
The hard times you hear about in relation to Atlantic City was clearly evident. Quite a few places on the boardwalk were vacant including what I would assume to have been large casino real estate in its hey day.
It was nice to explore another part of NJ as I have been to the state many times and not seen much beyond a few core areas. Gambling is not my thing so Atlantic City is not on my repeat destination list but I would consider returning in the high season to see if there is a different atmosphere then.
Have you ever been to Atlantic City, NJ? What was it like for you?
